Pet Safety Reminders

With the 4th of July just a day away, we have been seeing lots of great information across social media outlets on how to keep your pet safe and calm during holiday gatherings and fireworks.

Let's not forget about the danger of heat stroke, what signs to look for and how to prevent it.

Tips for Preventing Heat Stroke:

  • Make sure your pet has access to water at all times.
  • DO NOT leave your pet in a parked car even if it's only for a short time.
  • Keep your pet inside or in the shade if it has a predisposed condition such as breathing problems or heart disease.
  • Swimming or wetting your dog down with a hose is a great way to maintain a normal body temperature.
  • Restrict exercise on hot days.

  1. Great reminder! I also suggest playing in the hose, sprinkler or kiddie pool! ;) Have a safe holiday!

  3. Excellent post! It's a shame that so many still need a reminder for what should be common sense. Have a great 4th of July weekend.

  4. Good reminders! Our girl Wendy who passed in December had what I know now was the start of heat stroke many years ago. We were out for a walk, and I can't help but think about how lucky we were that a passerby stopped and helped me by doing all the right things for her when I had no idea what to do -- I learned a lesson that day, and am thankful that our girl Wendy didn't pay the price for what I didn't know then.

  5. We have been talking about getting the boys a kiddie pool. I don't know if they will love it as much as I hope, but I see all the other blog dogs enjoying theirs. It is so hot in Louisiana that heat stroke is a real risk. Thanks for the information!
