Helpful Tools to Transition Your Dog to Their #PerfectWeight

This post is sponsored by Hill’s. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Hill’s® Science Diet® Perfect Weight 10 Week Turnaround, but Golden Daily Scoop only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. is not responsible for the content of this article.

It has been just over two weeks since Miley started her 10 Week Turnaround with Hill's® Science Diet® Perfect Weight and things have been going very smoothly. In our first post we shared her story, plan and goals for her weight loss journey. Today we are going to share how we transitioned Miley onto her new food and the tools we are using to help us stay on track.

Miley is LOVING her new Hill's Science Diet, Perfect Weight adult food. We are feeding her half a portion in the morning and the other half early evening which seems to be working out really well.

This is her "This is my food and I'm not sharing with nobody" face...

Transitioning was really quite simple, we just followed the Hill's Pet Transition Chart for the first 7 days.

You want to make sure you transition the food gradually to avoid digestive upset and tummy troubles. Miley has always done well with new foods so it was no surprise there were no problems.

Tip: One thing we learned when speaking with Miley's Vet about her weight was using a measuring CUP, not a SCOOP, that's a big NO-NO as it's not an accurate measurement. We were actually giving Miley a lot more food than we thought!

Another tool that we have been using is the Hill's 10 Week Turnaround Calendar. I am a stickler for schedules and being organized so I am thrilled to have this calendar. It has been so helpful in guiding us by keeping track of her progress and helping us stay accountable! You can download and print out your own calendar here.calendar for science diet perfect weight dog food
The first week of transitioning is laid right out for you so you know exactly what you are doing each day, as well as a weekly weight tracker to keep track of her weight loss! We will also be noting on this calendar any changes in her appearance, her energy levels and what types of activities she is doing to stay active. I can't wait to look back at her journey and see all the progress she has made.

Finally, here is a useful tool from Hill's Pet to help determine your pet's shape. According to this chart, Miley falls under the yellow/Overweight category, since we can just barely make out her waistline.chart showing if your dog is over weight
Food for Thought:
Did you know that five extra pounds on a small dog is over 30 extra pounds on a human?!!!

Hill's Nutritional Consultants will be visiting PetSmart and Petco locations across the country to share information about Science Diet Perfect Weight and the 10 Week Turnaround and they will be handing out calendars in the stores as well.

If you have a pet that is overweight or feel they could lose a few pounds, we encourage you to take this 10 Week Turnaround journey with us!

You can purchase the Hill's Science Diet Perfect Weight dog food online at Pet360.com with add'l discount on Autoship.
You can also download and print out the 10 Week Turnaround Calendar here.

We are happy to report that Miley has lost just over 1 pound, she is currently at 88.8 lbs!

  1. Way to go Miley! Your vet is really smart to suggest you start using a measuring cup. So many people don't realize just how much food they are feeding their dogs and cats. Even healthy food can be a problem if you are getting double what you should be.
Must say you found yourself a very interesting Pillow. As for exercise we recommend squirrel and bird watching and chasing birds out of your yard.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Felissa! Miley definitely enjoyed getting more food, just not her waistline! ;) Squirrel and bird chasing sounds like a fun way to burn some extra calories!

  2. Go Miley! We have always used a measuring cup, but I get a lot of folks use a scoop. Great point! Keep up the good work!

  3. We use a scoop for our dry at night and just go by eye for the wet in the morning. Have a terrific Tuesday and happy St Patrick's Day.

  4. Way to go, Miley!!!
Good point about making sure you use a measuring cup!
We stay busy by taking Mom and Dad on tons and tons of walks! And we are Mom's birding buddies, too, so we get to go hiking all over the place with her, as she searches for cool birdies to photograph. Mom also does a lot of one on one playtime with me - playing Fetch or Siberian Rules Fetch (she throws the toy, I run in the general direction, then run and do crazy zoomies wherever I want to - then she has to come get the toy). That's all great fun! Both Cam and I are at perfect weight or just a tad under, according to our vet; that seems to make everyone really happy.
    Yours sincerely,
    Margaret Thatcher

  7. We take Lucy on long walks, and all our streets are up hill or down. I think her most important weight control exercise is finding safe places where she can run off lead. We do that several times a week in addition to her walks. Finally, we limit treats to veggies or Charlie Bears (very small).

    1. Running off lead is great. We have an average size fenced in yard and unfortunately not too many places in our town where they could go off leash. Limiting treats is key and so far Miley has adjusted quite well. Thanks for stopping by!

  8. We have cut Bentley's human "treats" out completely. We are walking daily, playing fetch, and the boys play chase in the backyard.

    1. No human treats here, either. Can't wait for our snow to melt so we can play catch, our backyard is much too icy and dangerous for that right now.

  10. Good job Miley. We have found that using a measuring cup to measure food works better for us too.
